Britfield & the Lost Crown – a TOS Crew Review
Family Read Aloud
I will be the first to admit that my family loves family read-aloud time. We have incorporated this precious time throughout our homeschooling journey. Technically, it began long before my children were even school age.
Having a family read-aloud time is not just a homeschooling thing. It is a wonderful family bonding time that I feel every family should be enjoying. I was super excited when the TOSCrew offered Britfield & the Lost Crown on audiobook through Audible.
Audiobooks are always fun, but there’s something exciting, yet relaxing about enjoying family read-aloud time via an audiobook during the summer months. (Summer is just made for relaxing and enjoying good books!)
It’s not always easy to get kids to sit still for read-aloud time. (I know some of you are thinking this is definitely an understatement!)
One of the keys is to feed them good, high-quality, and attention-grabbing literature.
Britfield & the Lost Crown had absolutely no problems meeting these requirements and grabbing the Foote family’s attention!
My first thoughts were of Charles Dickens when the audiobook started playing.
Britfield & the Lost Crown is an exciting adventure novel set in the midst of an English orphanage. The excitement grows as Tom and Sarah, two orphans, can’t take the labor camps and cruel punishments of this orphanage anymore. They make plans and escape!
English history, geography, and wonderful architecture were etched into our minds as we imagined ourselves right there alongside Tom and Sarah.
Tom and Sarah race from the orphanage, Weatherly, clear across England.
Detective Gowerstone stays in hot pursuit of Tom and Sarah. He has plain-clothed officers throughout England on the lookout for these runaway orphans.
Tom and Sarah’s adventurers took us along with them as they climbed ropes over ledges, raced to catch trains, flew and even crashed in a hot air balloon!
Their goal was to race across England in order to reach London.
Tom and Sarah were in for the shock of their lives when they reached their destination!

How our family used Britfield & the Lost Crown
We are far from the typical family. Why do schoolwork inside a stuffy building seated in an uncomfortable desk when you could be lounging around the campfire listening to an exciting historical fiction novel! Here’s a picture of a couple of my daughters sitting around a campfire while enjoying the Britfield & the Lost Crown audiobook.
We enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book together as a family. It does take over nine hours to complete it, but we stretched it out over quite a few days. We were able to easily add the Audible app to our tablets and cellphones, so we had the ability to listen to the book no matter where we were.
We listened to it while driving down the road, while lounging on the couch, and of course, while hanging out around the campfire.
