Are you trying to learn about saving money with coupons, but having a hard time understanding all of the coupon lingo and abbreviations?

Have you noticed that Strategic Shoppers tend to speak a language all their own?

If you are going to be in the Couponing World, then you need to be able to speak
the language.

I have put together a list of coupon lingo and abbreviations to help you can understand what everyone is talking about.

You can’t play the game if you don’t know the language.

How to Speak Coupon Lingo and Abbreviations Meanings List

Seems like everyone has their own code languages nowadays. It is all about abbreviations! Learn the coupon lingo and abbreviations and you will be well on your way to saving more money with coupons.

AC – After Coupon

AR – After Rebate

Blinkies – In-store coupons found in a little box hooked onto a shelf. They
used to always have a blinking light hence the name Blinkies, but there isn’t
always a light.

BOGO or B1G1F or B1G1 – Buy One/Get One Free

BOGOHO – Buy One/Get One ½ Off

B1G2 – Buy One/Get Two Free

B2G1 – Buy Two/Get One Free

B&M – Brick & Mortar store; not online

BTFE – Box Tops for Education

CAT or Catalina – Coupon that prints at the register after you pay for your
purchase.

Closeouts – Greatly reduced items that the store will no longer carry; be sure
and match up those coupons!

CPN – Coupon

CRT – Cash register tape, coupon that prints in the store; usually on the back or on the
bottom of your receipt

Double Coupon – When a store doubles the value of a coupon

DND – Do not double; only the amount printed on the coupon will be deducted

Digital Coupon – These coupons are added to a store coupon via the internet. You can typically upload these coupons from a desktop computer, laptop, or SmartPhone.

ETS – Excludes trial size

Exp. – Expires, Expiration date on coupon or deal

ECB – CVS Extra Care Bucks; which are Catalina coupons

FS – Free shipping

FAR – Free after rebate

FIC – Free Item Coupons – A coupon that allows you to get a product for free

Fillers – Extra items you need to meet minimum requirements. Either to
meet the dollar amount or to have the right amount of items in proportion to coupons.

GC – Gift certificate

GM – General Mills

GDA – Good deal alert

IVC – Instant Value Coupon

IPQ; IP – Internet Printable Coupon

MIR – Mail-In-Rebate

MQ; MFG; Man. Q – Manufacturer’s Coupon

Money Maker – You will actually make a profit if you purchase this item

NED – No Expiration Date

NLA – No Longer Available

OOS – Out of Stock

OYNO – On your next order

OOP – Out-Of-Pocket expense; what you will literally pay for the product

One Coupon Per Purchase – You can use one coupon per item you are buying. If you are buying four boxes of pasta, then you can use four pasta coupons because that equals one per purchase.

One Coupon Per Transaction – You can only use one of that specific coupon per transaction.

Overage – If the coupon is worth more than the item, then you will be paid
actual cash for the difference! (If the item is 50 cents, and the coupon is for a
dollar off, then you will be paid 50 cents for taking the item!)

PSA – Prices Starting At

P&G – Proctor & Gamble coupons

Peelie – Coupon that you peel off a package

Purchase – Each item you are buying is one purchase

Q – Coupon

Q’s – Coupons

RP – Red Plum (inserts in newspaper, and website)

R – Regional – A deal or coupon only available in a specific area

RR – Register Rewards (Catalina coupons printed at Walgreen’s)

Rolling – Using your Catalinas to buy something that offers more Catalinas

SCR – Single Check Rebate

SS – Smart Source (inserts in newspaper, and website)

Stacking – using a store coupon, and a manufacturer coupon on one item
(Not allowed at some stores, so read those coupon policies!)

TMF – Try Me Free

Tear pad – A pad of coupons or rebates found hanging from a store shelf or
display

Triple Coupon – A coupon that can be tripled in value ( Store policy will
tell you if your store will triple.)

Transaction – A full transaction is when the clerk has rung every item, given you the total, and you pay for the order. A second transaction is when you put up another order after fully completing the first one.

UPC – Universal Product Code (The bar code which is scanned on products.)

WYB – When You Buy

WSL – While Supplies Last

Wags – Walgreen’s Drugstore

WT; Wine tag – A coupon found hanging on a package

YMMV – Your Mileage May Vary (Success of the attempt to get a deal may
vary from store to store)

$1/1 – $1.00 off from one item

$2/1 – $2.00 off from one item

$/$ – Any example of money off purchase. For example $5/$25 ($5.00 off a
$25.00 purchase.)
