Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible by Bethany House Publishers

Introduction

This book starts out with an introduction that grabs a hold of both the reader’s attention and heart.

What Christian mother doesn’t want the Gospel of Jesus Christ to fully grasp her children’s hearts in the same way that Timothry, a child of a Gentile father, but Godly mother, was grasped?!?

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. -Proverbs 1:7

Author, Danika Cooley, made the shocking statement that only two out of ten Americans have read the Bible cover to cover at least once.

Only one out of ten Americans has read the Bible through two or more times.

As an American Christian myself, I found this shocking!

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. -Matthew 24:35

I was encouraged, however, when Danika reminded me that it is my job to plant and water the Gospel seed. It is not my job to make that seed come to fruition. God brings the harvest.

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. -1 Corinthians 3:5-6

It’s our job, as parents, to Help Our Kids Learn and Love the Bible.

Danika is quick to points us in the direction of raising our children in the Bible. She encourages us to focus on raising these children to become the Generation Bible.

It is a masterpiece of the devil to make us believe that children cannot understand religion. Would Christ have made a child the standard of faith if He had known that it was not capable of understanding His works? - D.L. Moody (1837-1899), evangelist

Part One – You’re the Leader

Part One – You’re the Leader contains three chapters that walk you through the steps you can take to make the Bible approachable for your children. It shows you how to get off to a good start with a Bible study and also how to finish strong.

My favorite part of this book shows you exactly how to practically find the time to actually have Bible study with your children in the midst of this hurried world that we all seem to live in today.

The author debunks common concerns that tend to come up when it comes to the Holy Bible and children.

Is the Bible too big for our children to read?

Is the Bible too hard for children to read?

Is the Bible to edgy for kids to read?

Danika covers these questions, plus gives some logistics on how to use Bible reading with each age group, from birth all the way up to young adulthood.

The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less that the whole Bible can make a whole Christian. -A.W. Tozer (1897-1963), pastor

Part Two – Faithful Reading

Faithful reading of the Bible is the key. Teaching our children to faithfully read the Bible is the entire point of the book, Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible.

These middle chapters found in Part Two – Faithful Reading are about important things to make sure you cover with your child as they learn about the Bible.

Danika reminds us to stay focused on the overall message of the Bible.

Who is God?

Man’s sinful nature and need of a Savior

God has always had a plan of salvation

What did Jesus command of Christians ?

Gather the riches of God's promises. Nobody can take away from you those texts from the Bible which you have learned by heart. -Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983), holocaust survivor

Part Three – A Daily Walk

Part Three – A Daily Walk gives you the how-to’s of how to help your children learn to read, memorize, and fall in love with the Bible.

Danika gives fun and memorable ways to help hide the Word in your kids’ hearts.

She suggests things like, singing Scriptures, making memory cards, and most importantly, reading the Bible and praying together rather than leaving your children to figure it all out on their own.

Conclusion

The author concludes this book by encouraging you to raise your children up in the Lord’s army. She is excited to have parents join the fight and be determined to have today’s children become part of #GenBible!

Foote Family Homeschool

This book was used as a parent’s resource guide to teaching children to read, memorize, and fall in love with the Word of God.

It is not a student’s Bible study book.

I read the book without Sarah. However, we applied the techniques within Bible time together.

Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible

Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible by Bethany House Publishers is an actual hold-in-your-hands and turn your own pages type of book. It’s a real book and not just another thing to read on a screen.

It is a soft-cover book with almost 200 pages.

I would highly recommend this resource for parents who are looking for ways to instill the love of God’s Word into their children.
