10 Ways Your Family Can Give Back During the Holiday Season
This is the perfect time of year to teach your children how to give back to the community.
I love to get the focus off receiving presents and on giving back.
Nursing Home
Nursing homes are the perfect place to give back.
We have spent year after year visiting our local nursing home on Christmas Eve.
The residents always enjoyed seeing the younger children all dressed up for the holiday.
We handed out stuffed animals and sang Christmas carols as we walked around the nursing home.
It is a little more difficult to visit nursing homes with the pandemic, but there are still ways to give back.
Your family can send Christmas cards to the residents.
You can drop off gifts, like nice socks, puzzles, craft supplies, and books at the front desk and ask them to hand them out for Christmas.
You could also notify the staff that your family will be standing outside singing so they can bring the residents to the windows.
Local Hospital
Not everyone gets to be home for the holidays.
It is a simple task to drop off a bunch of coloring books or stuffed animals at your local hospital.
This is a great way to make someone’s day a little less stressful.
Women's Shelter
There are probably a lot more women in shelters right in your hometown than you realize.
Getting a Christmas gift could really make their day.
Animal Shelter
Animal shelters are always in need of old blankets and sheets.
They would love a Christmas gift of animal food too!
Salvation Army
People just aren’t giving much anymore.
This is the perfect time to teach your children to be givers.
It is so easy too.
Just let them drop some money into a Salvation Army red kettle.
Red Cross
Give blood.
No, your children won’t be able to give blood, but it is a wonderful thing for them to see you giving blood.
Local School
Local schools and teachers are always in need of just about everything.
They would truly appreciate supplies and even clothing so they could help children in need.
Police Station
Dropping off coffee and donuts or even ordering a pizza for the local police station would make a great Christmas gift.
Fire Station
Don’t forget your local firemen too!
Let those who are willing to take care of us know that we care for them.
Pay-it-Forward
Do simple acts of kindness.
Buy a coffee for someone.
Pay for someone’s groceries.
Bake cookies for a neighbor.
Leave change in gumball machines or in an Aldi cart.
Pay-it-forward.
