How to Build a Useful Stockpile Part 7
Build up your pantry stockpile this year by shopping in season.
I know that you have heard the words, shop in season, many times over the years, but are you actually applying this technique?
Buy in Season Produce
Seasons change and so do the deals.
Make sure you are buying in season produce to help bring down your everyday grocery bill.
Don’t stop there though.
Buy extra in season produce each week and preserve it to use later in the year when it is no longer in season.
This is called eating tomorrow at today’s prices.
There are a few different ways to preserve this food.
- Freeze produce
- Can produce
- Dehydrate produce
I use all three methods of preserving food to use later.
Buying produce in season and preserving it for later is a great way to cut your grocery bill and build up your pantry stockpile.
Buy in Season Meat
Everyone knows produce changes with the seasons, but have you ever stopped to think about meat having seasons?
I stock my freezer with super cheap turkeys every November.
Hams are on sale in December.
Hot dogs and hamburgers are marked down every barbecue season.
Pay attention to these seasonal markdowns, then stock up.
Buy in Season Pantry Items
Spring, summer, autumn, and winter aren’t the only seasons to pay attention to when it comes to sales and stocking up the pantry.
The Christmas season, Valentine’s Day season, Halloween season, etc. are the perfect seasons to stock up on pantry items.
I hit those clearance shelves hard after holidays.
I find cake mixes, cereal, canned goods, and more marked at rockbottom prices.
These items have expiration dates out a few years, and are the perfect items to stock up the pantry.
Build a Useful Stockpile
Buying groceries in season is just one more way to bring down your grocery budget and stock up the pantry.
