How to Cut a Grocery Budget in Half

I cut my grocery bill in half while shopping at my local Price Chopper today.

I know many of you are probably thinking, Price Chopper is having a big buy one/get one free sale this week, so of course, you can cut your bill in half!

The truth of the matter is, I only bought two items that were on the BOGO sale.

Another objection I often hear is, I can’t shop the way you shop because I don’t want to feed my family junk food.

I consistently cut my grocery bill in half when shopping at my local Price Chopper while buying real food.

What Did I Buy at Price Chopper Today?

Today, I scored $206.63 worth of groceries for $117.23.

I got a cartful of beef, whole chickens, sausage, milk, fruit juice, strawberry lemonade, noodles, Rotisserie chicken, soup, and syrup.

Real food at really great deals!

I love Strategic Shopping!

Sugardale Bacon

I was surprised to see these packages of Sugardale bacon were full pound packages! They are on a BOGO sale this week at Price Chopper, so I picked up two packages.

Sweet Sausage

I found three packages of sweet sausage for $6.99 each. They were 3-pound packages.

I, also, had a 75-cent off digital coupon that applied.

Make sure you are always scanning the meat section for markdowns.

I took them home, divided them into meal-size sections, and froze them for later meals.

Whole Chickens

I found three whole chickens marked down.

I can make a lot of meals from one chicken, so these three are going to create many meals!

Stewing Beef

I found one package of stewing beef, so I grab it and threw it directly into my freezer.

Tropicana Fruit Juice

I rarely buy juice, but I found two cartons of Tropicana fruit juice with two store coupons stuck on them.

One thing I love about Price Chopper is their store peelie coupons.

Some people see multiple coupons stuck on things and assume the person running the sticker gone got carried away, but the truth is, they will deduct every coupon stuck on each product.

The juice was $2.79, but there were two 50-cent coupons, so I only paid $1.79 each.

Strawberry Lemonade

Sarah was excited when I brought home some strawberry lemonade.

I was happy I scored it for only $1.49!

Milk

I found four gallons of milk marked down.

We use a lot of milk every day!

I saw the $1.00 coupon stickers, but when I grabbed a gallon out, I realized they each had a $1.00 and a 50-cent coupon.

I paid $1.69 per gallon.

Knorr Sides

Knorr sides are on sale at Price Chopper this week – 10 for $12.00.

PLUS, there is a digital coupon for $5.00 off a rotisserie chicken when you buy 10 Knorr Sides.

Rotisserie Chicken

I found a cold rotisserie chicken marked down to $6.99.

When I got to the register, the $5.00 off digital coupon applied, so I only paid $1.99 for a Rotisserie chicken!

Progresso Soup

Progresso soup is on sale 4/$8.00 this week, but there is also a digital coupon which brings the total down to $1.49 per can.

There is a limit of 8 cans of soup.

Aunt Jemima Syrup

I found this half-gallon jug of Aunt Jemima syrup on the clearance shelf.

The original price was $9.99.

There were two $3.00 peelie coupons, so $6.00 came off at the register.

I paid $3.99 for this!

SCORE!

Tony’s Pizza

We make a lot of homemade pizza, but I couldn’t pass up pizza priced at $2.65 each, so I stocked up on some frozen pizzas.

But I Can’t Find These Deals!

You may be thinking, That’s fine for you, Candy, but I can’t find these deals!

First, don’t give up. It’s a treasure hunt. Keep looking!

Second, you don’t need to find the markdowns that I found today to get half off your Price Chopper shopping trip this week.

Price Chopper is having a huge buy one/get one free sale this week.

Go get those deals, then come back and let me know what you score.

Fetch Rebates

I submitted my receipt to Fetch Rewards and earn cashback.

It was as easy as snapping a pic of my receipt!

Fetch Rewards is by far my favorite digital rebate app!

They make it super easy to earn cash back! There are no hoops to jump through!
