How to Speak Coupon Lingo & Abbreviations


Have you noticed that Strategic Shoppers tend to speak a language all their own?

If you are going to be in the Couponing World, then you need to be able to speak
the language.

I have put together a list to help you speak the coupon lingo and abbreviations to
help you understand what everyone is talking about.


AC – After Coupon
AR – After Rebate
Blinkies – In-store coupons found in a little box hooked onto a shelf. They
used to always have a blinking light hence the name Blinkies, but there isn’t
always a light.
BOGO or B1G1F or B1G1 – Buy One/Get One Free
BOGOHO – Buy One/Get One ½ Off
B1G2 – Buy One/Get Two Free
B2G1 – Buy Two/Get One Free
B&M – Brick & Mortar store; not online
BTFE – Box Tops for Education
CAT or Catalina – Coupon that prints at the register after you pay for your
purchase.
Closeouts – Greatly reduced items that the store will no longer carry; be sure
and match up those coupons!
CPN – Coupon
CRT – Cash register tape, coupon that prints in the store; usually on the back or on the
bottom of your receipt
Double Coupon – When a store doubles the value of a coupon.
DND – Do not double; only the amount printed on coupon will be deducted
ECB – CVS Extra Care Bucks; which are Catalina coupons
ETS – Excludes trial size
Exp. – Expires, Expiration date on coupon or deal
FAR – Free after rebate
FIC – Free Item Coupons – A coupon that allows you to get a product for free

Fillers – Extra items you need to meet minimum requirements. Either to
meet the dollar amount, or to have the right amount of items in proportion to coupons.
FS – Free shipping
GC – Gift certificate
GDA – Good deal alert
GM – General Mills
IPQ; IP – Internet Printable Coupon
IVC – Instant Value Coupon
MQ; MFG; Man. Q – Manufacturer’s Coupon
MIR – Mail-In-Rebate
Money Maker – You will actually make a profit if you ‘purchase’ this item
NED – No Expiration Date
OOP – Out-Of-Pocket expense; what you will literally pay for the product
OOS – Out of Stock
Overage – If the coupon is worth more than the item, then you will be paid
actual cash for the difference! (If the item is 50 cents, and the coupon is for a
dollar off, then you will be paid 50 cents for taking the item!)
OYNO – On your next order
P&G – Proctor and Gamble coupons
Peelie – Coupon that you peel off a package
PSA – Prices Starting At
Q – Coupon
Q’s – Coupons
Regional – A deal or coupon only available in a specific area
Rolling – Using your catalinas to buy something that offers more catalinas
RP – Red Plum (inserts in newspaper, and website)
RR – Register Rewards (Catalina coupons printed at Walgreen’s)
SCR – Single Check Rebate (Rite Aid’s online rebate program.)
SS – Smart Source (inserts in newspaper, and website)
Stacking – using a store coupon, and a manufacturer coupon on one item
(Not allowed at some stores, so read those coupon policies!)
Tear pad – A pad of coupons or rebates found hanging from a store shelf or
display

TMF – Try Me Free
Triple Coupon – A coupon which can be tripled in value ( Store policy will
tell you if your store will triple.)
UPC – Universal Product Code (The bar code which is scanned on products.)
UPR; UPRewards – Rite Aid’s catalina coupons (Printed on the bottom of
your receipt, or loaded onto your loyalty card.)
WSL – While Supplies Last
WT; Wine tag – A coupon found hanging on a package
WYB – When You Buy
YMMV – Your Mileage May Vary (Success of the attempt to get a deal may
vary from store to store)
$/$ – Any example of money off purchase. For example: $5/$25 ($5.00 off a
$25.00 purchase.)
$1/1 – $1.00 off from one item
$2/1 – $2.00 off from one item
