20 of Our Best Family Oriented Movies
My family doesn’t watch typical television, but we have some favorite family-oriented movies that we absolutely love to watch.
Our family has a tradition that includes watching good, old-fashioned family-friendly movies.
We stick to good, clean, family movies.
Most of them would be considered classics.
Are you looking for some clean, family fun to keep your kids occupied throughout the holiday break?
Here are some of our best family-oriented movies.
The Apple Dumpling Gang
If you have never heard of the hilarious Don Knotts, then may I suggest that you fix that problem quickly!
Our family absolutely loves Don Knotts!
Are you looking for a roll on the floor, clean, family movie for your children?
The Apple Dumpling Gang is the perfect movie to bring laughter into your home.
Andy Griffith
My dad introduced my kids to the Andy Griffith show years ago.
They have loved Andy ever since!
By the way, do you know Barney on the Andy Griffith Show? Guess what? That is Don Knotts!
I told you he is hilarious!
Gomer Pyle USMC
If you liked Gomer on the Andy Griffith Show, then you will love him in Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.
My kids spend a lot of time laughing during these episodes.
The Beverly Hillbillies
Remember the poor family that hit oil and ended up in a Beverly Hills mansion?
Do your kids know who they are?
Classic!
Ma and Pa Kettle
My daughter, Sarah, loves all 20 of these shows, but Ma & Pa Kettle are definitely at the top of her list.
The Brady Bunch
Here’s the story of a lovely lady . . .
My family loves to watch all of the trouble the Brady kids get into and how their parents solve each dilemma.
Green Acres
Green Acres is the place to be . . .
We love these clean, silly shows.
Petticoat Junction
My kids love to see how all of these different shows cross over.
We loved it when the Beverly Hillbillies cast showed up at Petticoat Junction.
I Love Lucy
I Love Lucy is definitely a classic.
You can’t help but laugh through every episode.
Hogan's Heroes
Hogan’s Heroes is another show that my dad introduced my kids to.
They fell in love with the show immediately.
Swiss Family Robinson
When my older kids were little, we read the entire Swiss Family Robinson book. It took three whole months to complete it, and I am a super-fast reader!
With a book that long, you just can’t expect a movie to cover it all, but you can imagine our family’s surprise when the Disney version actually left out one of the Robinson family’s sons!
Still, the Swiss Family Robinson is one of our family’s top favorite movies to enjoy!
Little House on the Prairie
Yup, we have read this series over and over again, but we still adore the movie series!
Actually, Sarah has been playing the Little House on the Prairie DVDs every night lately!
Little House on the Prairie shows are excellent family-friendly movies!
Love Comes Softly
If you enjoy the Little House on the Prairie shows, then you will like the Love Comes Softly series too.
These are based in the same era as the Little House movies and are just clean, family viewing.
Mary Poppins
Remember watching Mary Poppins as a child? Maybe it is time to introduce her to your children.
Who doesn’t love Mary Poppins and her bag that never gets empty!I took my children to a free community viewing of the newer movie, Mary Poppins Returns, when it first came out.
We did enjoy the show, but I noticed a lot of the younger viewers that day didn’t get a lot of the jokes because they were directly referring to the original show.
If you want to have good, clean humor for your family to enjoy, then make sure you include Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews and the ever funny, Dick Van Dyke!
Make sure your family watches the original!
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Here’s another Dick Van Dyke classic that my family has loved over the years.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is about an adventurous car that is loaded with fun and a lot of humor. This one definitely makes our excellent family-friendly movies list.
Princess Bride
I have always told my children that they can find out if another family homeschools simply by making a reference to the Princess Bride.
If the family gets the humorous reference, then most likely, they homeschool!
No, offense to my non-homeschooling families!
Secondhand Lions
I am not a television-type person, but there are just some shows that I thoroughly enjoy watching with my family.
Secondhand Lions definitely makes this list!
I do admit there are a few words I wish I could bleep out, but overall, I love this movie!
Fat Albert
Do you find yourself saying the same things to your children over and over again?
I am not just talking about telling them to pick up their dirty socks and take their dirty dishes to the kitchen.
I mean during movies.
My kids just roll their eyes at me every time we watch Fat Albert and I say, Aww, I used to watch this as a cartoon when I was a child.
Yes, Mom, we know!
Snow Dogs
Snow Dogs is one of my favorites.
The kids literally hate it when I sit down to watch this with them because during every single scene I say, Oh, I love this part!
This show is certainly on my amazing family movies list!
John Wayne
Yes, we are that type of family. We love John Wayne!
I could buy a John Wayne movie every year, and my kids would be excited even if they already owned it!
We just really love John Wayne!
Is your family John Wayne lovers?
If not, please don’t tell us. We just couldn’t handle such negativity!
