20 Things to Buy in January 2020
Strategic shopping means there’s a season and a time to buy everything. Buying at the wrong time could literally cost you hundreds of dollars. That’s why I came up with a list of 20 things to buy in January 2020.
Anything Christmasy
Christmas has passed, and that means clearance. If it has a Christmas theme, or even a red or green package, then you will most likely find it in the Christmas clearance section.
I saw Christmas cups, decorations, candy, wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, and more marked down at 50% off starting the day after Christmas.
Dates vary, but we are expecting to see stores go from 50% off to 70% off. We should see 80 to 90% off by the middle of January.
I like to have my Christmas list all made out and ready. I keep a running list of the things I typically buy for my family at Christmas. Then, I just try and get those things at rock-bottom prices.
For example, I always buy my crew Christmas cups. With 12 kids, their spouses, and lots of awesome grandchildren, that’s a lot of cups! Even buying them at regular price at the Dollar Tree can quickly add up to a small fortune!
That is why I keep my eye out for Christmas cups on the clearance racks this time of year. I could already find them at half price on December 26th. As you can imagine, my favorite price is 90% off!
Don’t forget to stock up on wrapping paper while it is at its rock-bottom prices too! I took an old jean dress, sewed up the bottom, and hung it in my closet to store a bunch of wrapping paper.
Last year I saw a meme on FB showing red, green, and silver Hershey Kisses. It suggested saving the red and silver ones for Valentine’s Day, and the green ones of St. Patrick’s Day. Brilliant!
Gift Cards
Christmas time was a really great time to buy gift cards. That is why so many people got a gift card as a Christmas present. But that is also why you can find so many discounted gift cards for sale on places like Raise.com right now. A lot of people are hocking their cards for cash. That makes for some sweet deals on gift cards in January 2020.
Video Games
Many new video games are released in the fall just in time for the holiday season. These same video games will be marked down this month.
New Year’s Decor
You will be finding 2020 everything in the stores right now! I like to buy up anything on the clearance racks with the new year written on it to use as graduation decor or gifts.
Exercise Equipment/Gym Memberships
With New Year’s comes resolutions, so we will see great deals on exercise equipment in January 2020. Many gyms will be offering deals on memberships too.
Diet Foods
Yup, more New Year’s resolution deals. There will be a lot of diet foods on sale this month.
Organization Products
It seems like everybody wants to solve all of their problems at the turn of a new year. To get organized is one of the top resolutions, so we will see all kinds of products along those lines on sale this month.
National Oatmeal Month
Have you notice it is always national something or other day and month? Strategic shoppers use these little celebrations to get the deals and stock the pantry.
Watch for all things oatmeal to go on sale this month. This includes instant oatmeal, One-minute oatmeal, Old-fashioned oatmeal, and even oatmeal granola bars. Try and find coupons to match up to all of these oatmeal sales to make for an even sweeter deal.
Medicine
January is cold and flu season, so the stores will all be offering their best deals on medications this month. Don’t forget to use coupons!
Vitamins
Again, since it is cold and flu season, the stores will have some great deals on vitamins. Stock up for the year! Always use coupons along with the great sale prices.
Winter Clothing and Shoes
Stores are already planning for the next season, so we will begin to see winter clothing and shoes get marked down. This will include things like winter clothes, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, boots, etc.
Winter Sporting Goods
Ice skates, skis, hockey sticks, etc. will begin being marked down in January.
Office/School Supplies
The first semester of school is ending and the second one is beginning, so we will see some office and school supplies go on sale. This sale can’t be compared to the amazing deals we find beginning in July, but there will still be deals to be found.
Super Bowl
My daughter, Judy, absolutely loves Super Bowl season. She doesn’t care whether or not she watches the Super Bowl. She just wants to score all of the pizza and snacky food deals.
All of those football fans will either be attending or throwing Super Bowl parties. These parties will need pizza, chicken wings, chips, soda, and more, so watch for those kinds of deals.
Did you know that more people buy large screen televisions during Super bowl season than any other time of year?
Watch for television deals in January since the Super Bowl is on February 2nd this year.
New Furniture
January 2020 is a great time to buy new furniture. New furniture models will be arriving in the stores in February, so they need to clear out the old models. Look for deals on living room sets, area rugs, dining room furniture, and more.
White Sales
January always equals White Sales. Look for deep discounts on linens, towels, comforters, and more!
Carpeting and Flooring
January 2020 is the best time to buy carpeting and flooring. Many stores will be marking this products down this month.
Vacation Packages and Cruises
The holidays are over, and many people are ready to flee the cold, winter climates. January is a great time to get amazing vacation packages and cruises at great prices.
Seasonal Produce
Always try to buy your produce in season. The best seasonal produce in January 2020 is citrus fruits, pears, broccoli, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower.
More Groceries
There will be sales on soups, stews, chili, hot cocoa, teas, and coffee during the winter months too.
