Hi, I’m Candy!
Yes, Candy really is my name! I usually try to keep someone nearby who knows me so they can confirm it. 😄
I’m a mother of 12—six girls and six boys—and a grandmother to more than 30 grandchildren. And yes, I have heard all the questions over the years. No, I’m not Catholic. No, I’m not Amish. No, I don’t have any twins. And yes, I really do know where they come from!
Another question people often ask me is, “How did you become so thrifty?”
Well, I think I already answered that one—12 children!
Raising a large family taught me how to stretch a dollar, make the most of what we already had, stock a useful pantry, reduce food waste, and find creative ways to give my family more without constantly spending more.
I also homeschooled my children from 1993 through 2026. Those years taught me even more about creating a home that works for a busy family, finding affordable resources, preparing practical meals, and making every dollar count.
Today, I’m a pantry expert, strategic-shopping educator, and the author of Strategic Shopping and Build a Better Pantry. One of my greatest joys is sharing the lessons I have learned with other families.

Along the way, I have also learned that saving money is about more than finding the best deal. One of the most important parts of living well on a budget is learning to be content with what you have right now.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have dreams or goals for the future. It means enjoying what you have today while working toward what you want or need tomorrow.
Your budget isn’t only affected by how much money comes in. It is also shaped by the choices you make with the money going out.
That is what Strategic Shopping is all about—getting more value from every dollar you spend so you have more for your family, your goals, and the life you are building.
