Debt-Free Christmas
Who doesn’t want a debt-free Christmas!
I read that people are still paying off last year’s Christmas this year!
How horrible!
It is time to take charge of Christmas.
Want a debt-free Christmas? Which steps are you taking right now to ensure you will get that debt-free Christmas this year?
Write Out Your Goals
Start by writing out your goals.
What do you want to do this Christmas season?
How do you want to decorate?
What will you be serving for meals?
Which gifts are on your list?
Now is the time to break out a fresh notebook. (Hopefully, one you picked up for 25 cents at Walmart during their back-to-school sales!)
It’s Time to Dream
Feel free to dream during this part of the process.
Write down everything that would be included in your ultimate dream Christmas.
Of course, you won’t be able to do everything on your list this year, but always remember Christmas is never over; it’s always coming!
Having a plan, continually re-evaluating the plan, and working on the plan throughout the year has taken that, Oh, my goodness, it’s almost Christmas panic out of my life.
Evaluate and Re-evaluate the List
Examine your list and be realistic.
Time is short. Christmas will be here before you know it.
Maybe the mailman can be given some homemade cookies instead of new gloves.
Perhaps Uncle John can be taken off the gift list entirely.
This enables you to focus on those things that truly matter.
Establish your goals, then work to reach them.
Pay Attention to the Things You Typically Buy
We tend to buy many of the same things year after year.
I like to buy hot cocoa cups, slipper socks, and games to name a few.
I buy them every year, so I watch for deals all year long. I buy my Christmas cups for a dime in January.
It might be too late to apply this strategy to this year’s Christmas, but take notes, and use this technique next year.
It is a Great Time of Year to Find Deals
The best part about this time of year is the fact that you will be able to find practically anything at a great deal, but you will have to jump on it when you see it. Clearance and even super great sales don’t last long!
A few years ago, I picked up free Monopoly board games and free electronic Scrabble games.
I, also, got other board games for $3.00 and under all at my local Walmart.
It was super simple to do too.
Game coupons are really popular this time of year.
When I see them, I print them immediately. They don’t last long.
Stores are marking everything down for the holidays, so watch for those markdowns, and use those coupons in conjunction with the awesome sales. The final prices will shock you!
Step One of Your Journey to a Debt-Free Christmas
So, step one of your debt-free Christmas plan is to simply have a plan. Write out your dreams, goals, and lists.
