Know What’s in Your Pantry Before You Shop
What’s in your pantry?
Do you keep a running tally of what you have on your shelves?
Do you know what is on that back shelf?
I do a big pantry inventory every spring and fall.
I like to do a big inventory in the fall so that I know I am stocked up for winter and all of the major holidays.
I do another big pantry inventory in the spring to see how I faired through the winter and to know exactly what I need to get stocked back up for the year.
Do you do regular pantry inventories?
Everything Gets Pulled Out and It’s a Mess
The kitchen and dining room turn into a horrible mess. I pull everything off the shelves.
There’s dust and cobwebs all over the jars that get pulled off from the bottom shelves.
I inevitably end up spilling bags of rice, pasta, and flour all over the butcher block and floor.
Refill the Jars and Put Things Where They Belong
Things tend to get stuffed onto the shelves.
Jars end up half-full.
Baggies need to be emptied into jars.
Books need to be put where they actually belong.
Everything needs to be washed down.
Pull It All Out and Count It
Every can, box, and jar gets pulled out and counted.
I want to know exactly how many cans of chicken noodle soup I have and how many boxes of macaroni are on the shelf.
Do an Inventory Before Shopping
Taking an inventory of your pantry before going shopping is one of the best ways to save money on your grocery bill.
How many times have you thought you needed something while shopping only to realize you already had three after you bought another one?
How many times were you certain you had mayonnaise at home for the homemade subs you were planning only to realize at suppertime that you were actually completely out?
Know what you have in your pantry!
Now is the perfect time to take an inventory of your pantry.
Get it done just in time to prepare for the holidays!
