5 B’s Photography in Northern New York offering family, senior, wedding, maternity, baby, and engagement photography

There is something special about supporting a local small business—and this one is especially close to my heart.

5 B’s Photography, owned by my oldest daughter, Jaimie Besaw, serves families here in Northern New York with family, senior, wedding, maternity, baby, engagement, and other custom photography.

Jaimie loves helping people capture real memories in a way that feels personal, relaxed, and true to who they are.

And if you know me, you know why that matters so much to me.

Memories have always been a big deal in our family.

Memories

My grandmother once told me that looking forward 50 years feels like an eternity, but looking back 50 years feels like a blink.

The older I get, the more I understand exactly what she meant.

Time really does fly.

My grandmother loved taking pictures of everyday life.

I know because when I was a child, I was Grandma’s personal photographer!

She would call me over to her house, hand me her Polaroid camera, and tell me to take her picture.

I am so thankful for those pictures today.

I also remember the day my mother and father gave me my own Polaroid camera. I took so many pictures of my mother with it.

Those pictures became even more precious after my mother died from cancer at only 49 years old.

Pictures have a way of bringing people and moments back to us.

My own babies grew up much faster than I ever thought they would. Now I can look at old pictures and see those little faces again.

My grandmother and mother are no longer here, but their pictures allow me to share pieces of their lives with my children and grandchildren.

That is why I have always believed photographs are about so much more than getting everyone to smile at the camera.

They preserve pieces of our family’s story.

Meet Jaimie of 5 B’s Photography

Jaimie grew up in a family where there was certainly no shortage of people to photograph!

With 12 children in our family, getting everyone looking in the same direction, keeping their eyes open, and smiling at the same time could practically be considered a special skill. 😂

Maybe all that practice helped.

Today, Jaimie uses her creativity behind the camera to help other families capture their own memories.

One of the things I especially love about her photography is that she is willing to work with people and their ideas.

Your pictures do not have to look exactly like everyone else’s.

She can help make them yours.

Family Photos

You probably will not be surprised to hear that I love family photos.

I spent year after year having pictures taken with all 12 of my children, so I know exactly how challenging a family photo session can be.

Someone is not looking.

Someone closes their eyes.

Someone decides they are finished smiling.

And when there are 12 children involved…well, you can imagine. 😂

Jaimie has a knack for working with families and helping capture those moments.

One client, Mariah, shared:

“Jaimie was very kind and was more than willing to incorporate our ideas with her own.”

Children and Baby Photos

Babies do not stay babies for very long.

I know that better than ever now, especially as I watch my grandchildren grow up so quickly.

These photos of my grandson Eric are a perfect example of why I think baby pictures are so important. Those tiny features, little expressions, and precious moments change before we even realize it.

Jaimie captured some beautiful pictures of Eric as a baby, including the sweet black-and-white photos you see here.

At the time, they were pictures of a brand-new little person our family was enjoying and loving.

Now they’re memories. ❤️

That is what makes baby photography so special. You aren’t simply taking a picture of what your baby looks like today—you are preserving a tiny piece of a season that passes much too quickly.

And believe me, after raising 12 children and now watching my grandchildren grow, babies really don’t keep for long.

Maternity Photos

Pregnancy is such a short season in a mother’s life.

It may not always feel short while you are living it, but one day you look back and realize how quickly it passed.

Jaimie has photographed a number of expecting moms and can help capture that special time before baby arrives.

Mommy-and-Me and Daddy-and-Me Photos

How often are moms the ones taking all the pictures?

We end up with hundreds of pictures of our children and then realize we are barely in any of them.

A Mommy-and-Me session gives Mom a chance to get on the other side of the camera.

Jaimie photographed her sister Olivia with Olivia’s daughter, Savarah, and Olivia said:

“Jaimie is a great photographer. She makes the sessions fun and makes you feel beautiful.”

And, of course, dads should not be left out.

Daddy-and-Me sessions can capture those relationships too.

Generational Photos

If you have the opportunity to take generational family pictures, do it.

Do not keep putting it off.

I was blessed enough to have five-generation pictures with members of my family.

Those photographs become priceless because we cannot go back and recreate them later.

How many generations of your family could you get into one photograph today?

Think about it.

Then get everyone together and take the picture. ❤️

Engagement and Save-the-Date Photos

Engagement pictures should be fun and reflect the couple.

Jaimie enjoys incorporating a couple’s personalities and interests into their session so the finished pictures do not simply look beautiful—they actually feel like them.

Wedding Photography

A wedding day is filled with moments that happen once.

Jaimie enjoys spending that special day with couples and helping capture the memories from it.

When my son, Jesse got married, Jaimie photographed his wedding, and we absolutely loved how the pictures turned out.

The flowers may be gone someday, and the cake will certainly be gone, but those wedding photographs will still be there.

Senior Pictures

Senior pictures hit a little differently for me now.

When I originally wrote about 5 B’s Photography in 2021, I said I was almost running out of children in school.

Well, it happened.

My youngest graduated in 2026.

After homeschooling my 12 children for 33 years, there are no more senior pictures left for me to plan.

But now I get to watch the next generation reach those milestones. ❤️

Jaimie’s son, Gabriel, graduates in June 2027, and she will soon be taking his senior pictures. I can’t wait to see how she captures this season of his life.

That is one of the things I love about senior portraits. They aren’t just school pictures. They capture who your child is right now—right on the edge of one chapter ending and another beginning.

Whether your senior loves music, sports, animals, the outdoors, or something completely different, those interests can become part of the session and make their senior pictures truly their own.

And before we know it, Jaimie will be the mom looking back at Gabriel’s senior pictures wondering how those years went by so quickly. ❤️

Back-to-School Pictures

School pictures do not have to be the traditional sit-down-and-smile-at-the-camera kind.

A private photo session gives children the opportunity to show some personality.

When my daughter Christina had her back-to-school pictures taken, she was able to include her violin—something she loved—in the photos.

Christina said:

“When Jaimie is taking pictures she makes you feel like a model!”

Those are the kinds of pictures I love because they do not just show what our children looked like.

They remind us who they were at that age.

And Yes, Even a Cake Smash!

Who says cake-smash pictures are only for babies?

Jaimie once did a cake-smash photo shoot with her baby brother for his 21st birthday. 😂

Apparently, you are never too old to smash a cake for the camera.

It was fun, different, and definitely memorable.

Have Your Own Photo Idea?

You do not have to fit your photo session into one particular category.

If you have an idea for pictures you would love to have taken, talk with Jaimie about it.

She has photographed individuals, couples, babies, families, pets, and groups, and she is willing to work with people on their own creative ideas.

Some of the best photographs are the ones that capture something uniquely you.
