Back-to-school season always seems to come with a big change in routine. 🎒🍎

Suddenly there are earlier mornings, lunches to pack, hungry kids coming through the door in the afternoon, activities to get to, homework to finish, and somehow everyone still expects dinner! 😂

Whether you homeschool, send your children to school, or have a combination of schedules happening in your home, getting back into a routine can feel overwhelming.

The good news? A few simple systems—and the right kitchen tools—can make those busy days much easier.

1. Make Breakfast as Simple as Possible

Busy mornings are not the time for complicated breakfasts.

Having a few quick options your family can rotate through can save both time and money.

Some easy ideas include:

  • Eggs
  • Oatmeal
  • Yogurt and fruit
  • Toast or breakfast sandwiches
  • Smoothies
  • Muffins made ahead and frozen

One little kitchen helper I love for mornings is the Pampered Chef Ceramic Egg Cooker. You can make eggs and other quick breakfasts right in the microwave without pulling out a skillet and creating a pile of dishes.

That can be a lifesaver when everyone needs to get moving!

2. Create a Lunch-Packing Station

If you pack lunches, try keeping your most-used lunch supplies together.

You might have one section of the refrigerator for:

🥪 Sandwich ingredients
🍓 Washed fruit
🥕 Cut vegetables
🧀 Cheese and snacks
🧃 Drinks

Then keep lunch containers, reusable bags, napkins, and other supplies together in a nearby cabinet.

Pampered Chef Reusable Storage Bags can also make packing lunches and snacks easier. They’re great for fruit, veggies, sandwiches, snacks, and other grab-and-go foods—and they help cut down on disposable plastic bags, too.

Better yet, get the kids involved!

Depending on their ages, they can choose their fruit, snack, or other lunch items themselves.

That is one less thing for Mom or Dad to do. 🙌

3. Prep Fruits and Vegetables Before You Need Them

One thing I have learned over the years is that food is much more likely to get eaten when it is already washed and ready to grab.

Instead of waiting until everyone is hungry, spend a few minutes prepping some fruits and vegetables ahead of time.

The Pampered Chef Cup Slicer is handy for quickly slicing foods such as strawberries and other smaller produce.

A Food Chopper can also make meal prep faster when you need chopped vegetables for dinners, salads, tacos, soups, and other family favorites.

Even ten minutes of prep can make a difference later in the week.

4. Plan for the After-School Hunger Attack

You know the moment.

The kids walk through the door and suddenly act as though they haven’t eaten in three days. 😂

Having a few planned snacks available can help keep everyone out of the random snack cupboards.

Some easy ideas:

🍿 Popcorn
🍎 Apples and peanut butter
🍓 Fruit
🥨 Crackers and cheese
🥕 Vegetables and dip
🧁 Homemade muffins
🥣 Yogurt

The Pampered Chef Microwave Popcorn Maker is one of those simple tools that can make snack time easy without needing bags of microwave popcorn.

5. Use Your Microwave for More Than Reheating Leftovers

The microwave can be one of your best friends during a busy school week.

Pampered Chef’s Micro-Cooker Set is useful for quick sides and simple meals when you don’t have time to stand over the stove.

Think vegetables, potatoes, pasta, and other quick additions to dinner.

There is nothing wrong with making dinner easier.

A homemade meal does not have to mean spending two hours in the kitchen!

6. Do a Little Dinner Prep Earlier in the Day

If evenings tend to be hectic, ask yourself:

What can I do now that will make dinner easier later?

Maybe you can:

  • Chop the vegetables.
  • Thaw the meat.
  • Mix a marinade.
  • Prepare a casserole.
  • Put ingredients into the slow cooker.
  • Make tomorrow’s lunch while cleaning up tonight’s dinner.

Little jobs done ahead of time add up.

7. Give Yourself Permission to Keep It Simple

Some nights dinner might be a beautiful homemade meal.

Other nights it might be sandwiches, soup, leftovers, breakfast for dinner, or something you can make in 15 minutes.

And that is okay. ❤️

The goal during back-to-school season isn’t to create Pinterest-perfect meals every night.

The goal is to feed your family while making the routine work for your real life.

What Would Make Your Routine Easier?

Sometimes one small change can take a surprising amount of stress out of the week.

If there’s a particular part of your kitchen routine that drives you crazy—breakfast, lunches, snacks, chopping, dinner prep, or clean-up—I’d be happy to help you find a Pampered Chef product that might make that job easier.
