Famous Men of Greece by Memoria Press a Homeschool Review

a Homeschool Crew Review

Thank you, Memoria Press, and the Homeschool Review Crew for giving us the opportunity to review Famous Men of Greece.

Greek Mythology

Too many people associate Greek Mythology with today’s superhero movies.

When I pulled out our new Famous Men of Rome books, my kids started telling me about how Thor from the superhero movie was actually a picture of Zeus, the Greek god.

 It's all Greek to me!

I prefer my children to learn through good literature and reputable publishing companies, rather than through anything Hollywood has to offer!

Thankfully, Memoria PressFamous Men of Greece gave us a good foundation in Greek Mythology.

This curriculum doesn’t stop with the study of myths though.

It also includes the study of actual famous men of Greece.

The Beginning of Greek Mythology

Greece is a country found on the continent of Europe.  The people of Greece are called the Greeks.

At one time, the Greeks believed that before they came to inhabit this country, Greece was the land of the gods.

The Greeks began to tell stories of what they believed happened when the gods lived in the country.

Such was the beginning of Greek Mythology.

The Famous Men of Greece curriculum includes some of these myths with full-color pictures.

"Building is better than killing." - Cadmus

Greek Mythology

Zeus

Probably one of the most famous characters in Greek Mythology is Zeus.

Who was Zeus?

Where did he come from?

Who were his parents?

Was he good or evil?

What did he accomplish?

"What has been fated came to pass." - Greek saying

Heracles

Hercales, also known as Hercules to the Romans, was the son of Zeus.

Hercales is considered the greatest hero in Greece.

Achilles

Achilles is another well-known hero in Greek Mythology and is considered the bravest in all of Greece.

"I will get you some of my apples if you will hold the sky up for me." - Atlas

These great thinkers are still affecting our world today.

How We Used Famous Men of Greece in Our Homeschool

Famous Men of Greece could easily be used by an individual student all on their own.

We, however, chose to use it as more of a group study.

We took turns reading each story aloud, then discussed the Facts to Know section, vocabulary words, and comprehension questions before Christina wrote out the answers.

She picked and chose which activities she wanted to complete on her own.

Our Opinion

My family thoroughly enjoyed this curriculum.

We highly recommend adding it your homeschool, or just as a fun family read aloud for your family whether you homeschool or not.

Candy had been a good shopper for years. With 12 children, it didn’t take her long to realize that if she wasn’t a smart shopper, she wouldn’t make it very far! She wanted to continue to be a stay-at-home mother, but she wondered if this was going to be possible. Then, she found out about coupons. Coupons have literally changed her life!
