How to Easily Stock the Freezer with Quick Foods
It is hard to find anyone in today’s world who doesn’t say, I am really busy.
Everyone is busy!
Busy can end up being quite costly though.
That is why I thought I would share some quick and easy ways to stock the freezer with quick foods.
Bread
Freeze Extra Loaves of Bread
It can feel like the world is coming to an end when your children, or even just you, are hungry and you are all out of bread.
#1- Buy extra loaves of bread and store them in the freezer.
Your next question is probably, What am I supposed to do with frozen bread?
Keep an extra loaf of bread or two in the freezer for those days you run out of fresh bread.
Here are a few things I do with frozen bread:
- French Toast
- Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
- Garlic Bread Toast
- Toast
Have you ever tried cooking with frozen bread?
Cooked Meat
Store Cooked Meat in the Freezer
Life in the kitchen can be a lot faster when the meat is already cooked for the meal.
Cook up some of the meat ahead of time and store it in the freezer.
#2 – Store cooked meat in the freezer.
Frozen-cooked ground beef is one of my favorites to store in the freezer.
It doesn’t need to take a lot of time either.
Brown some ground beef in a skillet while you are in the kitchen preparing your regular meals.
You won’t be in the kitchen any longer than you would while just fixing supper.
Rinse it, cool it, bag it, and freeze it.
This works well for other meats too, like chicken, beef, and pork.
Double the Recipe
Store a 2nd Meal in the Freezer
You don’t need to spend the entire weekend, or even a full day, in the kitchen preparing Freezer Meals to stock your pantry.
It can be as simple as doubling a recipe.
Serve your family the meal you planned on serving and pop a second helping into the freezer.4
#3 – Double a meal and freeze the second one for later.
I like to double my taco meat and store a bag in the freezer every Taco Night. This keeps a fresh supply of Taco Night goingin my freezer.
Thawing taco meat is easy and fast even if I forget to take it out at the last minute.
Here are a few of my favorite meals to keep on hand in the freezer:
- Spaghetti sauce
- Lasagna
- Meatballs
- Meatloaf
- Taco Meat
- Cooked and seasoned chicken
Do you double the recipe of any of your meals?
Eat Leftovers
Freezer Leftovers for a New Meal Later
So many people tell me their family refuses to eat leftovers.
I have plenty of ideas on how to get your family to eat those leftovers, but here is just one of them.
#4 – Freeze your leftovers.
Freeze the leftovers and serve them in a few weeks.
Your family will have no idea that you are serving leftovers.
They will just think you are super organized by having a nice meal prepared in the freezer!
Here are a few left-over meals that I like to freeze for later:
- Soups
- Spaghetti sauce
- Taco Meat
- Hamburgers
- Cooked Vegetables
What do you do with your leftovers?
Freeze Some Desserts
Frozen Treats
I love dessert, don’t you?
Did you know frozen cookies are delicious?
#5 – Freeze desserts.
I like to keep a variety of frozen sweets in the freezer.
Here are just a few:
- Cookies
- Muffins
- Candy
- Homemade Slush Puppies
- Pies
- Cakes
Some things, like cookies and candy, can be eaten straight from the freezer. I call these cookies my tea-dunkers.
Of course, any frozen treats are meant to be frozen, so there’s no issue with those types of snacks.
I really like to be able to just pull a nice cake or pie out of the freezer for a wonderful dessert.
I use the same concept as I do with doubling meals. I just throw an extra pie or cake into the freezer for a later date.
