How to Make Homemade Slush Puppies
I am always on the lookout for frugal ideas.
I especially love to come up with frugal summertime fun.
Now that the 4th of July is over what are you going to do with all of the leftover juice, Kool-Aid, soda, and punch?
How about making some homemade slush puppies!
Preparing
I like to start my homemade slush puppies first thing in the morning because they do take a few hours to prepare.
I have found that my stainless steel bowl and my roasting pan are the two things that work the best when preparing my homemade slush puppies.
Step One
Step one is simply picking the flavor and the product I am going to use to make the slush puppies.
My children and grands have always enjoyed soda, Hawaiian Punch, Kool-Aid, etc.
The choices are really endless.
Sometimes I just use water, sugar, and vanilla extract. That’s it!
*Sometimes I mix the flavors.
Step Two
For step two, I grab my stainless steel bowl, or roasting pan and pour the liquid into it.
Step Three
Step three is just as simple. I put the bowl into the freezer.
Step Four
Step four is a little trickier because it requires me to remember to go back to the freezer every hour or so to stir the contents.
*Set your phone alarm!
Otherwise, it will turn into one big ice block.
Step Five
Step five is the best part. After several hours of freezing and stirring, serve in cups or bowls with spoons.
A Simpler and Faster Way
Of course, there is a simpler and faster way to get some slush puppies.
You could just freeze the beverage of your choice into ice cube trays then throw them into a blender and serve, but we have a lot of fun doing them manually.
I hope you enjoy making homemade slush puppies.
Leave a comment and let me know which flavors you choose!
