Math Shed and Spelling Shed – a TOS Crew Review

Both Math Shed and Spelling Shed fit extremely well into my family’s homeschool.

Math Shed and Spelling Shed

Some of our family’s main homeschooling subjects over the years have always been reading, writing, spelling, and math.

The three R’s of education are still vital to learning today. Covering these basics ensures that your student can go forward and learn all of the other subjects out there.

I have tried many, many textbooks, workbooks, and online curriculum over the past 27+ years of homeschooling my children.

It didn’t take long to realize that one of the best ways to get kids to learn the basics in math and spelling is by simply including games into their everyday lessons.

That is one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity to do a TOS Crew review for Edshed.  I was excited to receive twelve months of access to both Math Shed and Spelling Shed.

Although I am a big fan of using real, hold in your hand workbooks, I have found that changing things up to include digital learning has had an amazing effect on my children’s education.

Edshed's Math Shed and Spelling Shed

Are you interested in trying Edshed’s Math Shed and Spelling Shed with your family?

You can access these lessons on a tablet, phone, or computer for your family’s convenience.

This curriculum complies with the common core ELA standards.

Spelling Shed

Spelling Shed provides spelling lists for each grade level using national guide lines.

You can use the search option to find specific types of spelling words, such as phonics based spelling, etc.

I really like the save to favorites list option. I can also choose specific words that need a little extra study time to the favorites list.

If you prefer to not use the provided grade-level lists, there is a section to create your own tailor made lists.

Spelling Shed has three specific systems.

Favorites – Just use this like you would a bookmark. Favorites keeps track of high frequency word lists being used in your homeschool.

Assignments – This is a teacher’s best friend! Just simply use provided lists, or your specifically made lists and add them to either your entire school’s assignments, or separate ones per student. Add the starting and ending dates you prefer around each assignment, and your student will know exactly what is expected of him/her.

Hive games – I am a firm believer in the power of teaching with games! My students loved this section too! You can replace weekly spelling tests with these games. Choose the list you want to test your students on, select the level of difficulty, and let them play! One of the coolest functions about these games is your student can simply play against the computer, or you can have your entire class play at the same time. The teacher has complete control over this game show.

Math Shed

There is only one login for both Spelling Shed and Math Shed. Once your student is logged into their account, they can choose which Shed to visit.

Number Bonds

Your student is able to choose to work on just addition, just subtraction, or a combination of both.

They select the level of difficulty from easy, medium, or hard.

The easy level contains three numbers to choose to from to find the correct answer to the problem.

Medium level has six answers to choose from, while the hard level has absolutely no multiple chose answers. Instead, the hard level gives the student a calculator to type the answer into.

Times Tables

This is where your students get drilled on their multiplication tables. All problems are covered from 2’s through 12’s.

Powers of 10

This section even includes the option of decimals.

Ed Shed keeps track of all of your student’s work and scores for you.

Candy had been a good shopper for years. With 12 children, it didn’t take her long to realize that if she wasn’t a smart shopper, she wouldn’t make it very far! She wanted to continue to be a stay-at-home mother, but she wondered if this was going to be possible. Then, she found out about coupons. Coupons have literally changed her life!
