Getting a cat or dog spayed or neutered can be expensive. When you are already trying to keep up with groceries, household bills, and everyday pet expenses, the cost of surgery may feel completely out of reach.
That does not mean you should be embarrassed to ask for help.
Spay-Neuter-Now offers financial assistance to qualifying pet owners in Northern New York. The organization works with local veterinary clinics to make spay and neuter services more affordable for North Country families.
The program details and prices in this article were verified in September 2026. Fees, eligibility requirements, and participating veterinary clinics can change. Always confirm the current information with Spay-Neuter-Now before scheduling an appointment.
What Is Spay-Neuter-Now?
Spay-Neuter-Now is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Northern New York.
The organization uses donations, grants, fundraisers, and volunteers to help subsidize the cost of spay and neuter services. This allows qualifying pet owners to pay less than the regular cost of the veterinary care included in the program.
Who May Qualify for Assistance?
Spay-Neuter-Now uses income guidelines based on household size and total gross annual income. The current eligibility limit is based on 250% of the USDA WIC income guideline.
Proof of household income is required with every application.
Caretakers of the following community cats may also apply:
- Stray cats
- Feral cats
- Cat colonies
- Barn cats
- Other unowned community cats
Spay-Neuter-Now has separate situational guidelines for community-cat caretakers who may be over the regular household income limit.
If your paperwork does not fully explain your financial circumstances, include a short note with your application. It never hurts to explain your situation and allow the organization to determine whether you qualify.
