I love introducing you to the local small businesses and hardworking people who help make Northern New York special.

This particular business has an extra-special place in my heart because it belongs to my son-in-law, Daniel Besaw.

Daniel is the owner and operator of From the Ground Up, a local, family-owned contracting business offering home repairs, remodeling, window installation, chimney repair, masonry work, and other home-improvement services.

Meet Daniel Besaw

Daniel has worked in construction and home improvement for more than 20 years.

Building, repairing, and creating have always been a passion of his. After years of working for other companies—and plenty of encouragement from his family—Daniel decided to take the leap and start his own contracting business.

Starting a small business takes courage. It also requires long hours, hard work, dependable service, and customers who are willing to support someone in their community.

Daniel has built From the Ground Up through quality workmanship, personal recommendations, and treating his customers well.

Home Repairs and Improvement Projects

Home repairs can feel overwhelming, especially when you do not know who to call or whether you can trust someone to do the work correctly.

Daniel works with homeowners on projects that include:

  • Window installation
  • Chimney repairs
  • Masonry work
  • Remodeling
  • General home repairs
  • Other home-improvement projects

If you have a project that is not listed here, contact Daniel and ask whether it is something From the Ground Up can help you complete.

My New Window Installation

When I needed a new window installed, Daniel was naturally my first call.

He worked quickly and carefully, and I was thrilled with the finished result. The new window fit so naturally that it looked as though it had always belonged there.

As his mother-in-law, I may be a little biased—but I was also the customer, and I genuinely loved the work he completed.

“I love my window so much. It looks amazing, and you were super-fast! Thank you!” — Candy Foote

Chimney Repair and Masonry Work

Chimney repairs should not be ignored. A small problem can become a larger and more expensive repair when it is allowed to continue.

Daniel also has experience completing chimney and masonry projects for local homeowners.

One customer shared:

“Dan just finished a chimney job for us. He was fair, on schedule, and did a great job. I would recommend him.” — Ashley

Being fair, dependable, and on schedule matters when someone is working on your home. Customers want to know that the person they hire will respect their property, communicate with them, and complete quality work.

What Customers Say About from the Ground Up

A small local business grows through satisfied customers and personal recommendations.

Here are a few comments Daniel has received:

“I can say that I am beyond satisfied! Thank you very much! Great job!” — Dave

“Dan does an amazing job. He’s very fast and very good at what he does.” — Isaiah

Those recommendations matter because they come from people who have seen his work for themselves.

A Family-Owned Northern New York Business

Daniel and his wife, Jaimie, are raising their three children—Gabriel, Luci, and Fern—to be hardworking, thoughtful, and generous.

You may find the Besaw family delivering donuts to thank the police department, dropping off treats at a local nursing home, cleaning litter from the roadside, or simply stopping to help someone in the community.

When the children visit one of Daniel’s work sites with a cold drink, Dad may even find a small job for them to do!

That is one of the things I value most about supporting local, family-owned businesses.

You are not sending your money to a corporation located hundreds of miles away. You are helping a local family pay its bills, raise its children, and continue serving the community.

Why Hire a Local Contractor?

Choosing a local contractor gives you an opportunity to work directly with the person responsible for your project.

A local contractor understands the homes, weather, and communities in the area. You are also more likely to hear honest recommendations from neighbors who have already seen the contractor’s work.

Before hiring anyone, it is always wise to:

  • Clearly explain the work you need completed.
  • Ask questions about the proposed project.
  • Request a written estimate when appropriate.
  • Discuss materials, cost, and the expected timeline.
  • Confirm any insurance, permits, or licensing required for your project.
  • Keep a copy of your agreement and payment records.

Clear communication helps both the homeowner and the contractor understand what is expected.
