Math-U-See is a Household Name to Homeschoolers

Math-U-See’s Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM)

Math-U-See has been a household name for many, many years. Homeschoolers have been thrilled with their program for as long as I can remember. I was excited to have the opportunity to use and evaluate their Math-U-See’s Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction for the TOS Crew.

My family actually used Math-U-See way back in the beginning days of our homeschool journey. This online version, of course, wasn’t offered back then.

Thank God for the internet!

Steve Demme used to be a public school math teacher. He is the creator of the Math-U-See program.

He believes when children (and adults) SEE math by using the majority of their senses, smelling not included, they will find that they SEE it! In other words, they will finally get it. They will understand math, and isn’t that the ultimate goal?!?!

Digital Toolbox

If you have been worried about teaching your child math class, then worry no more. Steve Demme, the creator of Math-U-See, literally does the teaching for you.

Your student will have access to all of the levels in the Math-U-See program throughout the digital lessons.

Each video lesson is taught by Steve Demme.

Your student will be able to use their visual and audio senses throughout these videos, while using the hands-on toolbox at the same time to incorporate even more senses.

Hands-on Toolbox

Math-U-See is all about your student using as many of their senses as possible in order to really learn each topic. The goal is mastery.

Posters

There are posters included in their hands-on toolbox to help each child to see what they are learning.

I love posters, and have incorporated them into my homeschool for years, so these were a big hit at the Foote Family Homeschool!

Flashcards

Flashcards are a time-tested, proven way for children to learn their math facts!

The digital toolbox includes some for you, plus they let you know at which point in the lessons your are supposed to use each set of flashcards.

For example, addition by 2 flashcards are used during lesson two. Subtraction by 7 flashcards are used during lesson 19.

Math Blocks

Math-U-See's Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM)

The math blocks are the biggest thing that Math-U-See has been known for the most.

These blocks are color-coded according to the value of the block.

For example, the blue blocks = 10. The brown blocks add up to 8. The yellow blocks = 4, and the orange ones = 2.

They cover the digits 1 – 10.

Colored Pencils

A box of colored pencils are included to coincide with the colored math blocks.

Resource Guide

Don’t worry, you are not left alone to figure all of these different resources out on your own.

A 70+ page resource guide is included in the Hands-on Toolbox. This includes lesson guides, how to prepare for the lesson, how to present the lesson, how to demonstrate the lesson, math facts to work on, visual guides to use, how to work towards mastery, how the lesson coincides with the digital lesson, and in general teaching tips.

How the Foote Family Used Math-U-See

Math-U-See's Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM)

We started out this program with Sarah taking the AIM Assessment test.

Once we knew where to start, Sarah was able to do these lessons on her own without much assistance from me once I set the lesson up for the day.

I pulled up the video lesson so she knew which one we were working on that day.

I made sure the posters and flashcards were available for her to use along with the proper lesson being taught that day.

Sarah didn’t have any problems working through these lessons.

How Did the Foote Family Like Math-U-See

Sarah, age 12, thoroughly enjoyed these lessons. Math-U-See makes learning lessons, which would normally be considered boring, fun!

We highly recommend using Math-U-See’s Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction in your homeschool.

candyfoote

Candy had been a good shopper for years. With 12 children, it didn’t take her long to realize that if she wasn’t a smart shopper, she wouldn’t make it very far! She wanted to continue to be a stay-at-home mother, but she wondered if this was going to be possible. Then, she found out about coupons. Coupons have literally changed her life!
