CTCMath

Review on CTCMath’s FAMILY MEMBERSHIP for the TOS Review Crew

I seriously never want to go back to our pre-CTCMATH FAMILY MEMBERSHIP days. Am I taking this a little too far, you may ask.

NO!

Teaching math to your child may seem challenging to say the least. Some days it’s more like pulling your hair out, banging your head against the wall, while crying your eyes out kind of day.

We started homeschooling back in 1993. When my oldest son, Judson, hit Algebra I, we came to a screeching standstill. I scrambled to figure out how on earth I was going to be able to teach this class. I never took Algebra in school. Business Math was my specialty.

Where was CTCMath when I needed them?!?

I found an Algebra course on VHS. I can still see Leonard standing in front of a whiteboard, and speaking in a monotone voice throughout each lesson. We were thrilled when we popped that baby into the VCR. Judson’s first statement was, “Boy, I like this math teacher way better than my last one!”

Me too, Jud. Me too!

As much as we loved our Algebra videos, they just can’t compare to what’s available via the internet today.

We fell deeply in love with CTCMath at first sight. (Site?) (Pun is definitely intended!)

Math courses

Math courses include everything you could ever need to teach your children, or even upgrade your own knowledge of math. Courses cover teaching preschoolers about shapes and numbers all the way up to teaching your highschoolers about Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and even Trig! No more worrying about teaching all of that in-between stuff either! There are both printables and online lessons on everything math.

As a side benefit, there’s no longer the boring, monotone voice of Leonard in our living room. Now it’s an amazing Australian accent coming across the house, and who wouldn’t love that!?!

There are so many things that I love about CTCMath that I am not sure where to even begin.

Parent’s Area

I love having the ability to go into the Parent’s Area and see exactly what each one of my students has been doing in their math lessons. CTCMath provides parents with extremely detailed progress reports. These reports show which days and exact times everyone has logged into their accounts, how long they worked on their math, and exactly which problems they worked on.

No fooling Mama by saying you completed your math when you didn’t with this program

Although each student has the ability to sign into their own personal account and work on any level they prefer, I like being able to go in and assign tasks. I review all of the reports, which are sent both directly to my email, and found in the Parent’s Area on their website. Then, I assigned tasks according to what each child needed to work on.
Simply start out by choosing a student, and clicking on +Add task.

Full Math Curriculum

My children have spent the last 26 years asking me which grade they’re in.

Mom, am I in 5th, 6th, or 7th? Did you know that public school children actually know which grade level they’re in!?!

Homeschoolers are famous for never knowing exactly which grade level our students are actually in. I, personally, don’t think grade levels are for the real world. I think it’s more realistic that our homeschoolers answer the Which grade level are you in with Well, I am doing 11th-grade science, 12th-grade social studies, and 9th-grade math all at the same time.

CTCMath fits perfectly with this type of homeschooling. When you subscribe to CTCMath, you will have full access to all of the levels from Kindergarten through Calculus.

All I need to do is go into the Parent’s Area and pick tasks from any level.

Pick the dates you want your student to start and to finish their tasks.

Do you want your student to pass with a certain grade? Choose which grade they must receive to pass. I choose for each student to score at least a 70 to pass, but I also make my students re-do each lesson that scored less than an 80.

Multisensory Learning

Everyone learns differently. CTCMath has done its best to cover a variety of learning techniques.

Video Lessons

Each lesson starts out with a teaching video. These short and to the point lessons are very detailed. I really like that we are able to watch these short videos over and over as many times as it takes. We normally don’t need to watch the videos too many times though because the lessons are taught with extremely clear explanations.

Interactive Questions

After the video, there are questions to answer. Since it’s interactive, students find out immediately if they got each question right or wrong. At the end of the questions, the student’s work is given a grade.

Worksheets and Solutions

Worksheets can be printed out to give students some paper and pen workout. I really like this feature because I’m able to incorporate both online and pen and paper lessons into each of my children’s workweek.

Question Bank Wizard

The question bank wizard is fairly new to CTCMath. It gives the ability to create custom made lessons for each student. Best of all, you can choose to have your child complete these lessons online just like all of their other lessons, or you can print these lessons out as worksheets.

Judy Loves CTCMath

My daughter, Judy, determined a few years ago that she was going to stop hating math. She decided to get good at it.

I am always asking my kids, “Where’s the game,” to which they reply, “Up here,” while pointing to their brain.

Judy had determined to be in the game.

Here is a little paragraph that Judy wrote about CTCMath:

CTCMath is an amazing online math program that has helped me a lot. I love CTCMath! It makes math easy to understand. I used to not be good at math. I would get 50’s. Since we’ve had CTCMath, I’ve been getting 90’s and 100’s. This course is not super easy; it’s still math, but it does explain it in a way I can understand. It’s a great program.

CTCMath for Homeschool

We have used CTCMath’s FAMILY MEMBERSHIP in our homeschool for quite a few years now, and we don’t plan on ever switching math curriculum again. I have used it with my last six children, and I wish I would have had it for the other six children! (Yes, I really do have 12 children!)

CTCMath offers homeschool families a super deal on a twelve-month online family membership for up to five students. You can get this full math curriculum for ONLY $148.50! This is a savings of 50% when you pay for the entire year upfront!

You can also choose to pay in 12-monthly installments of $19.97 each month.

My family HIGHLY recommends CTCMath. I truly can’t recommend it enough. Leave a comment telling me about your CTCMath experience. Let me know if you subscribe to this math program already, or if you are signing up for the first time this year.

candyfoote

Candy had been a good shopper for years. With 12 children, it didn’t take her long to realize that if she wasn’t a smart shopper, she wouldn’t make it very far! She wanted to continue to be a stay-at-home mother, but she wondered if this was going to be possible. Then, she found out about coupons. Coupons have literally changed her life!
