35 Things I Never Buy or Rarely Buy
Inquiring minds always want to know what type of things I never buy or rarely buy.
I thought it would be fun to put this list together so you could take a little peek into my frugal lifestyle.
This is by no means a judgment on those who do buy these things.
Feel free to buy anything you want with your own money. 🙂
I hope you enjoy my list.
Subscriptions to Television/Movies
I do not subscribe to television/movie companies, like Hulu, Disney Plus, and Netflix.
I do have Amazon Prime, so I get movies included in that, but I typically just watch free YouTube Videos.
My daughter, Sarah, watches DVDs.
She wishes she could still watch all of the VHS tapes she has, but we no longer have a VCR.
Expensive New Phones
I don’t buy the newest, greatest, and most expensive phone.
For years, I wouldn’t even pay a phone. All of my phones were free through Straight Talk when they used to give you a free phone every time you bought your normal monthly phone card.
I haven’t seen this deal in quite a while.
The last phone I bought was a cheap one from Walmart.
Even though it didn’t cost a lot of money, it is still a SmartPhone, and still has all of the features people get on their expensive phones.
Kitchen Gadgets and Electric Appliances
I don’t even like kitchen gadgets and all of those electric appliances.
I prefer to use a knife to chop my fruit, vegetables, and meat.
I mix and knead my bread by hand.
I use a regular handheld non-electric can opener.
I mix milkshakes up in a bowl.
The kids even make whipped cream and butter by shaking a Mason jar filled with heavy cream.
Brandnew Cars
Everyone knows that a brand new car substantially depreciates the moment it is driven off the car lot.
My issue is with the actual monthly payments.
I don’t want to be sending hundreds and hundreds of dollars to the bank every four weeks.
I can think of a lot more things I would rather spend my money on.
Manicures and Pedicures
I have never spent money on expensive make-up.
Impulse Buys
I am not an impulse buyer.
If I see something in the store that I didn’t plan on buying, then I throw it in my cart and walk around the store thinking about whether I really want to exchange my hard-earned money for whatever that product happens to be.
I ask myself things like, Do I want to leave this store with my money, or do I want to give my money to Walmart?
8x10 Pictures
If I want an 8×10 print done off of some picture, then I wait for Walgreens to offer a free one to me!
Yes, Walgreens often offers coupon codes for free pictures.
Going Out to Eat
I just can’t bring myself to pay full price for clothing.
I hit up the clearance racks and thrift stores instead.
Brandnew Furniture
My kids were carrying my new-to-me couch into the living room one year when my young grandson grabbed some white-out and painted the couch before they even had a chance to set it down.
It didn’t bother me at all.
I don’t want brand new furniture.
I want to be able to laugh and not stress at all if something happens to my furniture.
Brand Specific Anything
I am not brand loyal.
Sorry, brands!
I am always on the lookout for the best deal, not the brand.
Subscription Boxes
I have never signed up for subscription boxes, like Hello Fresh.
But, I have been tempted to sign up when they send those awesome free deals.
Bigger and Better
If I have a 32-inch television and my neighbor has a 55-inch television, guess what? I don’t care.
I don’t need the next bigger and better thing.
Microwave Oven
I don’t own a microwave oven anymore and don’t plan on ever purchasing one again.
Our old microwave was only used to occasionally heat up leftovers and heat up my cup of tea.
I don’t think it takes any longer to use the stovetop to heat up leftovers and my tea tastes way better heated on the stove.
Movie Theaters
Expensive Shampoo
I don’t use body wash.
I use shampoo or bar soap.
Just like the shaving cream, I do buy some when there is a super coupon deal, then put it into my gift closet.
