How to Build a Useful Stockpile Part 1
Happy New Year!
You have seen overflowing pantries online, and you’ve decided this is the year you build a stockpile.
Great!
Deciding is the first step.
Feeling a little overwhelmed at how to get started?
How do I get started?
What do I buy first?
How can I afford to do this?
These are all normal questions.
All of us started where you are right now.
You can do it and I am here to help.
How Do I Get Started?
When I decided to get serious about having a stockpile, I started out by thinking about the most important things I ran out of on a consistent basis.
Now, I am not talking about ice cream or Little Debbie snack cakes.
I sat down and seriously thought about the essential things that drove me nuts whenever I was out of it.
What Do I Buy First?
I came up with a list that included things like toilet paper, dish detergent, and laundry soap.
It seemed like I was always running next door to ask my neighbor if I could get a ‘splash’ of dish detergent, or an emergency roll of toilet paper.
It got to the point of embarrassment.
I had had enough!
I decided to run to Walmart and literally buy cases of my favorite Dawn dish detergent.
After that, I started watching for weekly deals on any type of dish detergent the stores were having on sale every week.
I added those bottles to my stash of dish detergent.
It felt good to know I had what I needed on a shelf in the other room.
Pretty soon, my neighbors, friends, and family knew they would come to ME if they ran out of dish detergent.
It felt like a huge win!
How Can I Afford to do This?
I got determined.
I wasn’t going to be without dish detergent again.
I sat down and decided how much I could spend in order to get my dish detergent stocked up.
Some weeks, I was able to just walk into the store and buy a bunch of it.
Other weeks, I made sure I added at least one bottle to my regular shopping.
Sometimes I paid full price, while other times I used Strategic Shopping by using sales, coupons, rewards, and rebates to get what I needed.
No matter how I did it, I stayed focused and determined to buy dish detergent every time I went shopping until my goal was met.
Your Turn
Ready? It’s your turn.
Take a few minutes to think about things.
What are you always running out of?
How much do you want to stockpile?
Do you want a month’s worth?
Three months’ worth?
A year’s worth?
What would make you feel like you are all set on that item?
Decide to stay focused.
Buy that item every time you go shopping until you meet your goal.
After you are stocked up on that particular item, replace it every time you use one.
That way you will never need to buy a huge stockpile at once again.
Let me know what you are going to focus on and how you are going to build a useful stockpile in your home this year.
